Mission-On 2 Town No. 2: Kaikoura!

The name 'Kaikoura' means 'A meal of Crayfish', and the area is famous for this delicious delicacy! Just off the coast of Kaikoura is an enormous underwater canyon, and this trench brings an amazing amount of marine life to the area. Whales like the Sperm Whale make the area a home for many months of the year, and Kaikoura is one of the best places in the world to catch a glimpse of these incredible creatures.

In 1978, Kaikoura became caught up in UFO fever! Strange lights were seen from a plane flying over Kaikoura! Some people believe this to be one of the most convincing sightings in the world!

Towns across New Zealand each featured over a whole week of Studio 2! We met the locals, found out about the history of the area, and got involved in some local activities! When 'Mission On - 2Town' rolled through each town, 8 kids got the chance to represent their town in some sporting challenges, with their efforts combining to create an overall score on the '2Town' leaderboard!
