Parkour (French for "art of moving") - developed in France by David Belle, is essentially moving from one location to another in the fastest and most effective means possible, getting across urban or natural terrain using the human body to its maximum potential.

The popularity of Parkour has skyrocketed since being featured in a number of commercials, TV shows, music videos and movies... the most notable being the opening sequence of the recent James Bond film, Casino Royale.

What is Parkour?

Parkour is a physical and mental disipline in which you train the body and mind to overcome obstacles. A parkour practitioner, called a traceur, uses their surroundings to improve their ability to move in space.

The aim of this extreme sport is to cross obstacles in the fastest and most direct way possible - which might include scaling buildings and jumping across rooftops!

Parkour is a discipline of daily training, both physical and technical, to heighten the body’s natural movement; improving strength, speed, balance, coordination, precision, power, and endurance.

The sport was developed in the trees and forests of France just as much as in the cities, and is practiced to great effect in both the natural environment as well as the man-made urban environment.

By interacting with different obstacles the practitioner learns to control their body and navigate any terrain. It is the movements combined with this philosophy that defines Parkour.

Aside from the physical benefits, parkour training helps develop mental clarity, confidence, self-discipline and focus, as well as the ability to deal with fear.
