Rock Band

Harmonix, creator of the Guitar Hero series, has decided to take their idea to the next level. Be part of a full-fledged band in the upcoming game “Rock Band”, coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and possibly Wii.

UPDATE: Price estimate and prototype photographs of the microphone, guitar and drum controllers revealed in the international magazine Game Informer.

"Wonder if the game also comes with Groupies?"

So there it is! The drums are going to follow a "five button" theme if you include the foot pedal, and the microphone is going to be similar to that of PS2's Singstar games, and the estimated price for us Kiwi's is going to be $270... Well, like... hopefully anyway.

But c'mon... if you're going to rock faces off with one instrument, you may aswell do it with them all. Awesome.

Guitar Hero owners may also be pleasd to know that their SG Controller should be compatible with Rock Band. It sounds like the instruments can also be sold separately, meaning the game could be cheaper than $270 for you if you don't mind missing out on some of the instruments.

"This one goes out to my main man, Hendrix."

After the launch of Guitar Hero the gamer fan base exploded with cheers, smiles and headbanging by the boat-load. After the huge success of the first game, Guitar Hero II cranked the amp up to 11 and rocked even more faces. It seems nothing is getting in the way of Harmonix and their projects now, because they're playing the concept at a whole new venue. We'll quickly establish now that there are no confirmed release dates or pricing details, but we should expect to see Rock Band hit the shelves in December '07, or possibly early 2008. This could mean "awesome summer hols ", people...

Drummer: "Dude, the crowd's like, behind you."

Rock Band riffs around the same premise as Guitar Hero, where players wield an instrument and rock with others similar to a live band. But instead of just sitting with a controller in the form of a guitar, there are controllers for numerous band positions. Guitars, drums and a microphone that doubles as a tambourine for when the singer has to watch his lead guitarist bust out a guitar solo, all of these ideas scored tickets to the upcoming game. Tickets with VIP passes...

...Booyah.

Very stylised character designs give a great feel to the game.

Nobody other than Harmonix is sure as to how the drums and microphone will look, or how the interfaces of all instruments will be displayed on screen without any clutter. Along with that, no songs have been confirmed or rumored for the game yet. If that's the case, now would be the best time to spam thousands of e-mails to the game developers asking for your favorite song to be included in the game. *Hint, hint.*

One official version of the Rock Band controller. Could possibly change.

However, there are a couple of screenshots and photo's of the game with no HUD as you can see in this article. And other photos of a near-finished version of the guitar. It looks pretty sick so far. The guitar controller looks more realistic, and along with the same five-fret-button motif as on the Guitar Hero controller, there's also five additional buttons further up the neck of the guitar for insane guitar solo's.

Double the frets, double the fun.

So those five extra buttons make you feel a little better when talking to people who play real guitar.

Guitar Player: "Dude, that's so cheap... learn to play a real guitar...”
You: "Don't worry man, this isn't the dumb 5-button version, this one takes skill.”
Guitar Player: "Is that so?”
You: "Yep, ten buttons dude, no cheapness there.”

"WAAaAaAaAaAaHHHH!!!!"

... Although real guitar takes more skill. We'll keep you posted on further developments!
